Drying Bowl Blanks

>I want to use some thicker pieces of tropicals and burls and local crotch and gnarly wood for non-turned projects, most bowl blanks are "not dry by lumber standards" and often waxed or sealed. Can anyone point me to some info. on drying whole blanks & thick short harvested stock in a small home shop without cracks & checks or a longer-than-necessary wait? I often make my own equipment and can handle heat & chemicals without blowing myself up or creating a new Superfund site.
