lg.bowl help

ken chase
>I'm working on my first fairly large bowl of mesquite.10" long 9" wide at the top. I'm hollowing the end grain and I made two observations. I should have used a faceplate instead of the chuck and it's going to take a very long time to hollow this puppy. I'm using a hollowing bar as it seemed more effective than a gouge or scraper.
I welcome any suggestions of a better method.
Thanks
