Subject:
Favorite finish for Camphor?

Gary Evans, Tallassee, TN
>Hi all,
I got a nice piece of camphor at the Southern States symposium. It's about 2 1/4" thick x 15" wide, so I'm going to turn some shallow bowls/platters.

Two questions: 1) I would like to use a clear finish, as there are lots of pink streaks through the grain. I'm thinking clear lacquer, but I've never worked with camphor before. What do you like for a finish on camphor? Also, I would like to allow the smell to escape a little, if possible. I'm not sure lacquer is the best choice for olfactory gratification.

2) The wood seems to be quite oily. If I decide to use a waste block, will I have trouble with the double-stick tape?

Thanks,
Gary````Camphor newbie.
