Wet Sanding

>I've read a lot of posts talking about wet sanding. What do you use to wet the paper? I thought water would raise the grain. If using Danish or Tung oils does it ruin the micro-mesh for use on other items?
Mineral oil sounds like it might be a good option.

Wet sanding to fill minute surface flaws sounds like a good idea. Any tips on the best way to go about it?
