HELP! Before it's too late!

Mike in Fort Walton Beach, FL
>My father in law has a bunch of log cut offs that happen to have spalted. Not knowing any better, he has had them stacked up and in between them the fungus and bugs are getting to them. I already unstacked them and put the fungal side up. My question is, how to I clean them up? I don't want to hurt the wood any more than what's already been done. They are about a foot and a half in diameter and up to two inches thick. Bark still attached. I guess you can call it found wood since he was using one of them as a cutting board while chopping up pecan chips for his smoker. I think I need to teach him what to look for in the future.
Thanks,
