chinaberry flatspot problem

>I'm not experienced enough to figure this out. I'm sanding a holloform and there are a couple places that have a flat spot that I have not been able to correct. The wood is grainy and the color where the flat spots reside looks lighter than the rest of the piece and streaky. Is chinaberry a wood I should avoid?
Thanks
