>I'd like to try making some tools. I'll admit, right off the bat, I'm igornant about types of steel to use for tool making, & how to do it.
1)In the Enco catalog I found O-1 drill rod, but, no mention of O-2.(master catalog, pg.657) Did I overlook it?
2) What is the difference in O-1, & O-2 drill rod?
3) On pg.657, it shows that air hardening drill rod is more expensive than oil, or water hardening d-rod. Russ had mentioned that water hardening "W-type" steels are considerably more expensive. I don't know if the W-1 on pg. 657, is the same Russ mentions or not?
4) Can somebody explain why the water hardening drill rod presents more of a hazard for burns than the oil rod?? Does the hot steel cause the water to explode on you?
