Big piece of purpleheart *PIC*

Mike Schwing from Md.
>This is a 19" diameter piece of purpleheart. The local exotic lumber dealer made me a deal - he gave me 4 feet of a 22" wide, 1" thick board. I made him a platter and I get to make one for myself. This one is for him. Not a lot you can do with a 1" thick piece of 22" wide lumber, turning wise, without cutting it up for segmented turning. This turned out pretty nicely, but I think the groove closest to the rim is a little TOO close to the rim. Finished with 2 coats of Watco, after sanding to 12000/Micro Mesh. Not buffed out yet. I think the one that is going to stay with me will get some add'l surface enhancement.

This is the stuff Jim King turns all of the time. Jim - this is LOUSY wood to turn when dry. But it finishes up beautifully. Comments welcome.
