Subject:
wood too hard to cut?

ken chase
>I came across a place a tree removal service dumps the stumps and was offered all I wanted. I brought some home and discovered it was thoroughly dry. It had probably baked in the desert sun for a very long time (I live in Palm Desert CA) I dulled a brand new band saw blade so much I had to discard it. Any thoughts on what kind of trees they were. I think one was a palm and it didn't yield anything of interest. One species was quite pretty, a rich reddish brown color and one species was bleached a gray color and felt like it was fossilized, really dense and hard. I realize now green wood will save a lot of $ in band saw blades.
Imput appreciated
