turning in desert climate

ken chase
>I live in Palm Desert CA. I can not believe how quickly my green mulberry is drying out. I cut it so the end grain was on the outside for bowls. In one day in the garage the outsides have cracked. I cut a blank I prepared yesterday and it felt like it was kiln dried. Isn't this unusual? What can I do about it? When I just left a piece on the lathe for continued work tomorrow I draped in in damp terry toweling.
Thanks.
