>I appreciate all of the input on choosing a lathe upgrade. I did look at the Nova DVR,from Tim in WV, but no stands were available and I don't have the time right now to deal with designing and making one. I needed something that can just be assembled, plopped in place, tuned, and turned on.

As a consequence I bought the Jet 1642 with a 10% discount from my local supplier 15 minutes from the house who was willing to match Woodcrafts 1 day sale price for tomorrow and give me the 2 hp version to boot. The local dealer, Brentwood Machinery, is 35 minutes closer each way and is the local Jet/ Powermatic service center and can offer good support. I could have taken the floor model, but I'll wait the 2-3 weeks until I can get one right out of the box.

Again, I appreciate the advice from all who responded.
