Subject:
How does your faceplate seat onto the spindle

John Trant (Baltimore/DC area)
>Does your faceplate (or chuck) bottom out on the end of your spindle or does it set against a collar on the spindle? I am having an conversation with a machinist that insists that the face plate and chucks bottom out on the end of the spindle on most wood lathes and he uses the Powermatic and Delta lathes as examples. I had assumed that these accessories seated against a collar of some type to maintain square and firm seating and the end of the spindle is not engaged. This is true for my Nova, Jet mini and my Vega 2400. Any help with this informal survey would be appreciated.
