Subject:
Big ring questions

Fred in NC
>Looks like I will be turning some large rings. That is, if I can find a good way to do it.

Dimensions will be 16" to 20" outside diameter, the ring itself will be 1-1/2" x 3". The material will probably be laminated from 3/4" stock. The resulting blank will probably be octagonal both inside and out, and not very even at that.

I can turn outboard if I make a suitable tool rest.

The BIG question, is how do I hold the piece ? I will have to turn the outside and the inside of the ring to true it up.

Any help, experience, comments, ideas, and ridicule will be much appreciated !!! I have my dunce cap ready . . .
