Alcohol drying question

I just read Dave Smiths article here and I have a question.

He says that you wrap the outside of the bowl to impede drying of the outside and indice compressive stress on the inside.

The question: Has anyone thoought to try wrapping the outside in plastic ? Thus forcing even more compression?

BTW, inducing internal compression to limit and control internal surface cracking is a proven method . We use it in the nuclear industry to repair some welds with ID flaws.

SO Dave theories about that are backed up by millions of dollars worth of research!
