Bottle Stopper Mandrel

TomW in SouthJersey
>I recently bought a 1 X 8 bottle stopper mandrel from PSI. My Nova 3000 uses a 1 1/4 X 8 thread so I used it by clamping it into a Grizzly 3 jaw chuck. The clamping part isn't a problem. The mandrel uses a fairly small diameter replacable wood screw held in by a tiny set screw. I've broken 5 or 6 screws. Most ended up in the now useless piece of wood.

Is there a better mandrel out there? I've seen a nice heavier duty looking one at Arizona Silhouette. Any recommendations? I'm spending more time fiddling with the mandrel than I am turning.
