JET parts help?

William Duffield, on the Cohansey
>I'm building accessories for my JET 1236 and other lathes. For attaching tool rests, tailstock, etc., to the ways, JET provides a crudely made stepped washer, 1/2" thick, 2 1/4" diameter, with the smaller diameter step less than 1 1/4", so that it fits loosly between the rails. I suspect this arrangement is typical for many lathes.

JET asks $3.75 for these, which seems a bit steep, considering their lack of finesse, but what irks me is the $17 shipping and handling they want for two of them. What do you use for less expensive, or at least more readily obtained, substitutes?
