Subject:
bowl turning question

>I'm pretty new to bowl turning, and I seem to have a heck of a time getting the inside bottom to have a nice curve--they all want to end up with a flat bottom. The sides are nicely curved, but they transition into this flatness, which would be ok if I were trying for that look, but I'm not. Any hints to avoid this? Could it be the grind geometry of my bowl gouge? I use a vari-grind jig, and it looks ok to me, but as a newbie, I could be (and probably am) wrong. Maybe it's just fear of going through the bottom and ending up with a funnel!
