Subject:
Bandsaw motor amps question?

Barry Irby
>I have a 14" Delta bandsaw with a motor labeled 3/4 HP ll.6 amps @ 120 volts. The local wood Craft store had a Jet Bandsaw motor labeled 1 hp 10 amps @ 120 volts.

Since the AMPs is considered the most conservative or accurate way to rate the power of a motor, Doesn't this indicate the motor with the 11.6 Amps is likely to be as powerful or more so than the one with 10 amps even though one says it's 3/4 hp and the other is 1 hp?

I was thinking of upgrading increasing the size of my motor, but I think I want one with substantially more power and it looks like this is not it. Right?
