making handles

>I am newer to turning and have aquiered chisels of various makes and would like to make handles that are more comforatable in my hands. I was wondering what is the best way to mount the chisel in the handle and what thickness of brass for the frutle(not a speller ,just a woodworker)and if cherry would be a goodwood of choice. One more dumb question, if I use a poly glue could I laminate 2 pieces of 3/4 stock to do it. I hope I have not bored you guys to much. Thank you for taking your time to help a woodworker entering the turning world. Nate
