Mark Mandell - Gone Round In Jersey
>Thought I'd post this little guy since it was so much fun. Started off as a piece of Ambrosia Maple given me by David (It's Only Wood) Ellsworth last Summer. When I looked over the dried rough, the T'ao T'ieh mask figure just jumped out, so I took it as a design challenge. Wound up as a suspended "temple artifact". Bowl's pretty thin (except for the handle-ledges) and about 7" by 3" deep finished in Waterlox Gloss. Was very nit-picky to get the finish even, especially at the ends of the handles. Base is a square-turned piece of walnut finished with Deft and fitted with bronze suspension rods. Doesn't take too much to come up with a whole cosmology for the thing.
