Subject:
custom banjo

>I have the Jet 1014. I have been thinking about a hollowing gate. But talking to the Kelton folks I have been told that a 5/8th inch tool post and the cast iron banjo on my Jet may not stand the gaff. So...

I am wondering if anyone makes, or has had made, a custom banjo for the Jet 1014 ways (or any other lathe, for that matter).

Ideally, I'd like a thinner banjo (to reduce the loss of swing) but stouter...stronger...maybe made from good steel bar and perhaps even a 3/4" tool post. Of course the banjo has to fit and tighten down on the ways of the Jet.

Anyone got any ideas?
