faceplate ratio

I have a nice three inch facepalte for my Jet 1014, but I want to glue a piece of waste onto the bottom of a, roughly, 8"x4" semi-green black locust that I have rough rounded. Problem is that the only piece of waste wood I have available is a little less than three inches and dinged off on the edge of one side.

So I'm ondering if a two inch aluminum faceplate--like CSUSA sells-- would be big enough...sturdy enough...to handle this size bowl blank?

Thanks...
