Finishing Help on Redwood Burl Bowl *PIC*

Mike Sloan
>First try at posting a picture. This is a small redwood burl platter/bowl about 8 inches across and 1&1/2 inches deep. Currently sanded to 1200 grit, but no finish.

I normally use an oil finish, but when I tested my normal finish on a cutoff of the redwood, the oil darkened the wood so much that the flecks, rays, and grain flutter pretty much disappeared. As a result, I am thinking about a wax finish. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for finishing redwood burl?

Thanks
Mike
