Jet 1014 capacity

>I have a brand new Jet mini lathe that I got for Christmas. I have turned it on just to make sure it worked...and that's all.

Last week my son-in-law gave me a 12", 1.5 hp electric chain saw.

Today I cut up some (somewhat green...been aging for a year or better) black locust that I had, making three really...I mean really...rough bowl blanks (I don't have a bandsaw). I have one that is about 9 1/2" in diameter by maybe 8". Two smaller...maybe 8" in diameter by 4" and 6" respectively.

My question is will my new Jet with its 1/2 hp moter handle the roughing out and rounding of these pieces? Between centers. I don't want to ruin my spindle bearings. What speed should I run at when roughing?

Thanks...I might get back at these come Wednesday. I'm looking forward to it.
