Subject:
New Lathe Not Very Forgiving!

Barry Turner
>I decided to take a maiden voyage with my new lathe Tuesday night. I had a piece of green cherry. I turned the outside profile of a 6" natural edged bowl intending to leave on the bark. I reversed the blank into a Supernova chuck with 2" dovetail jaws. As I was hollowing the inside, I got a big catch! Quicker than the eye, the foot was ripped off the bowl and the bowl went airborne! When I retrieved it, I found it was no longer a natural edge bowl.......not with bark anyway. My very first bowl on my brand new lathe........and now it's firewood! Better luck next time!
