steel question

Hello: I have come across a set of Frued turning tools that are probably close to 20 years old. They are marked chrome vanadium steel on them. I dont know that much about the different types of steel. From the research I have done it seems that c-v is not a high speed steel but must be a carbon steel of some sort. Is that right? Are the c-v tools going to be any good or should I just forget about trying to sharpen and use them? Thanks in advance Jared
