Slipping drive on Jet 1236 lathe

Pete L
>Guys - Purchased a slightly used Jet 1236 lathe a few months back. Have noticed that on larger diameter bowls, the turning slows and sometime stalls due to my agressive tool use. Motor doesn't seem to labor, as I watch the motor fan with one eye , and watch the lighting in the area (which shares the same circut) and no light dimming or motor slowing is noted. Appears the only way to tighten the belt is the spring on the motor pulley assembly, which won't be easy. Do belts wear out in this sort of drive? Is the belt supposed to be a cut-side or wrapped side belt? Or is this slowing situation the nature of the 1236? What's your experiences ? Thanx......
