Subject:
Sanding A Windmill???

Mark Mandell - Gone Round In Jersey
>Doing a pair of plank bowls. Bowl portions are about 12" x 6" and the end wings (about 5/8" thick) are another 6" beyond the bowl rim. While turning these things was an adventure both wet and dry (the WHIRRRR is pretty fierce), I'm now at the point where the wing surfaces have to be sanded, and I'm wondering how others have done this. Power-sand off the lathe(Belt/RO/etc.)? Power sand on the lathe? Power sand on the lathe when spinning? Fast or slow? Outsource'em? Make up some fluff about maker's marks and don't sand at all?

All suggestions that are not calculated to put me in the ER will be considered.
