>Got a bunch of stabilized maple burl I am going to make bottle stoppers with.. trouble is the stuff is so hard & also stabilized, the wood won't crush and let a standard mandrel or threaded end cut the threads. Figure the only way to do it is to drill them & use a bottoming tap to cut the threads. Trouble is I don't know the thread. These are chrome cone bottle stoppers, but I have a few Berea HDW ones to do too. I could experiment but I figure someone here has had the same problem and solved it so why re-invent the wheel. Any help would be appreciated.
