Subject:
I turn with my ears...

Walt C
>I was sharing my shop with a friend, and discovered while he was running the belt sander that I couldn't use my lathe! I didn't realize how much I depended on the sound of the cut to determine whether it was correct.

A good cut gives just a swoosh of wood coming off, too deep gives a whine, and of course wrong presentation gives vibration which will translate into chatter marks.

I'm going to start listening harder--see if I can't improve.
