Indiana Maple Burl (Pics)

>Hi all,

OK, this really isn't a plug for the burls that Kurt K in Indy is selling, but I bought a few chunks of it and the stuff is really nice :) I've not touched the myrtle burl as myrtle is one of my favorite woods to turn, so I am savoring that for a bit. I did turn this bowl from a hunk of the maple burl he sent me. Sorry for the poor photography. The bowl is about 7.5 inches across and about 3/8 inch thick. That burl was not super wet when turning it, so I didn't try to dry it, just went straight to the finished piece. I expect it to warp some. The only finish on it now is Tried and True Varnish. I'll buff it with the Beall system in a few days. There's some great "cellular" figure in this stuff!

Thanks for taking a look. Comments and critiques are always welcome.
