Turning Archive 2004

>This bowl is patterned after one done by Ray Allen, the man who I consider was the master segmented woodturner of all time. The bowl is 12-1/2 inches in diameter and 6-1/4 inches high. The woods in the feature ring are Walnut, Purpleheart and Yellowheart. The body of the bowl is Alder, with an Ebony ring at the top. The challenge for me was to design the segments in the feature ring so that the points line up at the edge after the bowl was turned. Special care was needed to make sure the segmented rings were all concentric at glue-up time so that everything lined up evenly.
Dale Nish has a great new book titled "Woodturning with Ray Allen", and it is a must-have for segmented woodturners.
