Subject:
care and cleaning of lathe motor

Roly (So Cal)
>In mid-spin, the other day, all I could get out of my belt-drive electric motor was a hum. However, it would start up with a prompt turn by hand, and I thought a new motor might be required. Upon pulling the motor all apart, I found that it was loaded with sawdust and such from years of wood turning! Dusting it out and sucking out the debris was all it took, and now it runs like new again. Has anyone had this same problem, and is there any way to prevent this stuff from entering the inside of this electric monster?
