>I have been studying ancient pottery forms in an effort to expand my design horizons. I have noticed many pieces have one thing in common, from 3500 year old Egyptian vessels, Greek forms,even to modern-day glass pieces. They all have a cyma, or reverse ogee curve as a major design element.
However, the cyma curve is rarely seen in current woodturning; in fact, many consider it to be "bad" form. Yet, Flat woodworkers still consider the cabriole or "queen anne" leg (cyma curves) one of the most graceful forms in existance, just as one example.
Anyone care to weigh in on this one? I was going to e-mail privately on this subject, but thought it would be a good topic for all.
