Square bowl *LINK*

Don Henthorn Smithville, Texas
>I wanted to try a square bowl just for the fun of it and I had this bland little block of
California Laurel that wouldn’t be a great loss if I goofed. The turning went well except
that the wood was a little punky in places, so I wet sanded it with 50-50 polly and mineral
spirits and 320 grit. That helped smooth the punkiness out although some of the pin holes
are darker than the surrounding wood. I used a walnut glue block on the faceplate and at
the end left a thin ring on the foot tp provide some contrast. Imagine my surprise when I
hit it with the poly during sanding and this great figure popped out. Of course the walnut ring no longer stood out.
