Oak Hollow vessel

>I'm turning an oak hollow vessel for a friend. They brought me a piece of wood about 14" long that had been setting for a year. I told her I would make something but didn't know how big since it was checked pretty bad.

It turns out was pretty sound but there was a black line running down the side. As I was hollowing it started making funny sounds so I stopped. Sure enough it came apart all down the black line. I've CA'd it and Im letting it dry right now.

I really don't like turning wood that old but she's been a good customer so I had to have a go at it.
