Turning a Mallet - Need Advise

Stan Campbell
>I want to turn a small Mallet head out of Purpleheart. It will be for a friend that does wood carving. If I use a 4 prong center on the headstock and the revolving center on the tailstock, how do I shape and finish the ends? This is the one thing that is giving me the most trouble is figuring out how to hold, cut and finish both ends of something I want to turn. Since the Mallet is to be tapered, I can't use a chuck to hold it because it won't get a good grip and it would probably marr the piece. I also need a way to hold it so I can drill a hole in the end for a handle.

I need an Air Chuck real bad.
