Turning Archive 2004

Subject:
something from the log dump *PIC*

Mike Schwing from Maryland
>Silver maple taken a few months back at the local log dump. Roughed out then and finish turned about 2 weeks ago. 2 more weeks for finishing and here she is. About 6" in diameter, painstakingly finished thusly; sanded to 12000, sealed, sanded w/ 600. Then given 7 coats of Deft spray lacquer, sanded with 600 in between each coat, then sanded again w/ 600 and 1000, then buffed on wheels with tripoli and finally white diamond. Very glossy and smooth, but a lot of work.

I do not like the collar, but it is not glued on so I will make another. The lower rim is too thick and gives the appearance that it curves back upward. No problem, just another unused collar to add to the drawer full. They take about 15 minutes to make.

Comments welcomed, good/bad.
