DC Motor Brain Trust Questions

>What am I looking at re: the following DC Motor:

Baldor 2HP (Good brand)
145 TC Frame - ???
180 vdc - ???
9.6 amps
1750 RPM
3548P - ???
TEFC (Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled - Good)
F1 - ????

Is this a candidate for woodshop use, IE. Lathe motor? If not, why not. If yes, why?

At 1758 RPM, not a good idea to make it a direct drive vs. step pulley???

I assume there is something else I will need to add to control the speed...???

My old lathe could use some new blood and dollars are short so no new lathe in the picture... however, a DC conversion might give the old cast-iron a new lease on life...

Any help from the DC (non-political) Brain Trust is most appreciated.
