Subject:
Drying Cherry logs

Russ Ellsworth
>As a new turner, I am trying to use some 14-16 inch dia. trunk from a cherry tree. I am stripping the bark, sealing the ends of the 16-18 inch pieces with paint/ thinned titebond glue and stacking the results in the shop. After a couple of days, the ends are starting to check. Do I need to split the logs? Do I need to use some other sealer? Have I taken on more than I can expect to conquer? The small bowls I see in the 8 ft. of trunk are receding over the horizon!
And thanks for the guidance.
