Subject:
Ellsworth/fingernail grind help.

Bert Workman
>After reading several posts and testimonials on the superior perfomance of the fingernail grind I purchasesd a new gouge. (I needed one anyway) My first two attempts at using it resulted in two rather spectacular dismounts. Fortunately nothing is broken but now I'm afraid to turn my lathe on again.

How is this thing supposed to work? With my traditional bowl gouge I would rub the bevel with the tool on its side such that the bottom/lower portion of the gouge did the cutting. That doesn't seem possible with this grind.

I'll have the David Ellsworth video in a day or two and I'm sure that will help. Any other advice?

Thanks to all,

Bert
