I received the following letter via US Mail today.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Sir,

My name is Major XXXX, and I am the Operations Officer for Task Force XXX, a US Army Military Intellegence Battalion that is responsible for providing tactical intellegence to the Commander of US Forces in Iraq, XXX. I read with interest in the "Stars and Stripes" the article describing your desire to provide Freedom Pens to each service member currently serving in Iraq. While I am sure that you are now being flooded with requests for pens, I would like to add this request to the flood. There are 284 soldiers in our Task Force and should you be able to provide Freedom Pens to our unit I will personallly insure that each soldier receives their pen. Since the Mission of the soldiers in this Battalion is to write Intelligence Reports for the Commander of the US Forces in Iraq the pens your group would provide us would be used for the mission as well as for the more pleasent purpose of writing our loved ones back home. If the back-log of requests is too large for you to be able to provide us with Freedom Pens prior to the end of 2004 I would still like to take this opportunity to thank you and your group of volunteers for your efforts to support us during our deployment. It really makes a difference to us out here that people besides our own families remember that we are here and care.

Thanks you for your time, efforts and support.

Sincerely,

Name XXXX
MAJ, MI
S3, TF XXXX
