Subject:
Quicker handling skew? *PIC*

Keith Tompkins
>I finally broke down and bought a few new turning tools, including a new 1" skew chisel. It handles much differently than my old skews, although the grind angles are almost identical. It is grabby and prone to catches at the slightest input. I think I've figured out the problem...my old skews have square edges, which I eased, while the new skew has a rounded edge. This seemingly minor difference has changed the cutting geometry; as shown in the image. If I were to rotate my old skew from the point where it sits on the toolrest (A) in a complete circle, you can see the difference from the new tool, which rests on point B. That would explain the difference in the way the new tool handles....any one else experience this?
