Chainsaw Oil

Some chainsaw manufacturers make, or package, their own oil for mixing with gasoline. Some oils are generic for mixing with the gasoline in a proportion recommended by the chainsaw manufacturer.

Here's my questions. I have a few gallons of 2 cycle OUTBOARD motor oil. What makes the oil OUTBOARD specific? Can it be used in non water cooled 2 cycle engines? Does the water cooled outboard motor require different oil. How different is OUTBOARD oil from 2 cycle oil?

Thanks,

Clem
