Turning Chestnut Wood

>I acquired some green Chestnut. I am having trouble turning the wood. It seems that no matter what I do the gouge wants to bounce. I cut the wood the traditional way by splitting the log down the pith and cutting out the blank on the band saw. I securely mounted the piece between center. I faced off the end by shear scaping with the bowl gouge and when I tried to rough turn the outside, I continuely get bounce. I am not using pressue on the tip end and I am running the bevel but get nothing but bounce. I have never had this problem before with other woods and I wonder if anyone else has had this problem with Chestnut.
