Subject:
Vacuum Chuck & Platter Issue?

Stuart Johnson
>I have been working on a Cherry platter that is giving me a problem. I normally use a compression tenon but on this one I used my chuck in expansion mode. When I reverse turned the bottom I used my vacuum chuck.

I can now see a faint outline circle of lighter wood on the inside of the platter and a slightly darker circle that matches the recess left in the bottom for the chuck. I'm hoping this will all even out after I leave the platter out in the sun for awhile to darken.

I've never had this show up before but this is the first time I ever used the expansion method rather than compression. Any ideas on what caused this and do you think darkening will have the desired effect? The platter is not excessively thin.
