Subject:
Oneway Tailstock Swinger WITH 17" Extension

>When I bought the tailstock swinger, I thought it was great. Then I got a spindle job that required the 17" bed extension so the swinger was removed and stored away.

That was 2 years ago.

Today I decided I would make it work or just sell the darn thing. As you may know, the swinger does NOT work with the extension because the extension is just a half-tube and the swinger mounts to the lower part of the tube (which isn't there).

So I simply attached a piece of 3/4" baltic birch ply to the inside of the extension. This now gave me a place to mount the lower part of the swinger. The ply flexes a bit with the weight of the tailstock when it's pivoted, but nothing I'm going to worry about.

BTW, I can now squeeze 56" between actual centers by hanging the tailstock halfway onto the swinger (yet still gripping the extension).
