I've been toying with the idea of making a bowspring lathe.
I have 0 experience on lathes and don't want to spend...don't have it anyway...on buying a new modern lathe..
I do currently do small jobs like bottle tops and tool handles on the drill press. I made a tool rest from wood that clamps to the base plate.

What do you all think of the cheap lathes available at places like harbor freight?

What do I need to consider if I make my own bench lathe out of an old motor?

Where could I get parts for such a beast or would it be better to get the cheap lathe?
