Couple questions on Jet mini-lathe...

Rich Glisson
>As a newbie with a new lathe, I've been wondering about a couple of things. Why does Jet put the access door to the belt and pulleys on the BACK side of the machine so that you have to be a contortionist to look in? Is there some fundamental rule of lathe design that is escaping me?

Also, the drive center that came with my lathe (a JWL1220) has flutes that are square/flat on the ends so that they won't cut into the wood unless you beat the heck out of it. Shouldn't they be sharp?

Thanks!
