Turning Archive 2008
>This piece was inspired by John Jordanís work. Iím drawn to his beautiful carved hollow forms. I thought Iíd try my hand at carving and pyrography. This piece is black walnut turned in a traditional form but with slightly thicker walls to accommodate the deep carving between the segments. The petal top of each segment was carved to give the feel of an opening bud or seed pod. The segments were hand carved, wire brushed then burned with a small pyrography skew. The piece was finished with shellac then buffed with steel wool to soften the finish. Itís 5 ĹĒ tall, 6Ē wide and sits on a 1 5/8Ē base. All comments/critiques welcome.
